This is "Maybe" Not Annie's Year: 1/9/15

Official Movie Poster for
Annie (2014)
Over the course of many years, there have been many remakes of classic movies. Some are modernized, some stay in a set time period; some are heavily changed and some aren't. No matter what, there are always going to be people disappointed by the remakes claiming the classic was better and deeming the remake unesscessary.

The 2014 remake of Annie seems to falls into that category, most critics agree that it is quite a disappointment.

Richard Corliss of TIME Magazine calls it "A teetor-totter between O.K. and Meh." while Mary Houlihan of the Chicago Sun Times remarks "Even Sandy the dog looks like he's had enough."

It seems that not even the movie's big star power (Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx) could pull the whole thing together.
Lead actress Quvenzhané Wallis
"Did I really just watch Foxx do an entire musical number set inside a moving helicopter? I did, and I've never felt more embarrassed..." (Wesley Morris, Grantland)

Despite all the negativity, Annie has made over $74.5M since it's December release. For having a $65M budget (and still going strong in theaters), that's not half bad.

The movie's starring actress, Quvenzhané Wallis, has also been nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy or Musical Motion Picture (Golden Globes), Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture (NAACP Image Awards), and Best Young Actor/Actress (Broadcast Film Critics' Association Awards).
